Head of cylinders and drive of the gas-distributing mechanism

Removal and installation of a head of cylinders from the established engine

In the following description those works which are required if the head of cylinders and a drive of the distributive mechanism are established are described. The description includes also removal and installation of cam-shafts. Because of differences of the carburetor and injector engine of work are described separately. The main distinction of carburetor and injector engines is use in the injector engine of one driving chain, and in carburetor two chains. In the below-mentioned description some works are given only in the form of instructions. For carrying out specific operations it is necessary to read appropriate section of the management.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Reduce pressure in a power supply system as it was described in the Section Removal and engine installation. For this purpose take out the safety lock represented on an illustration.
  2. Unscrew all panels being under a front of the car.
  3. Establish a forward part of the car on support, unscrew the right wheel and unscrew a guard in a forward right wheel arch.
  4. Merge cooling liquid as it is described in the Head of System of cooling and heating.
  5. Remove a radiator.
  6. Remove soaking-up air hose to the inlet pipeline.
  7. Weaken and remove a driving belt on the face party of the engine. Unscrew a remenny pulley of the water pump.
  8. Remove the generator.
  9. Remove the pump of the amplifier of a steering.
  10. Remove a gas cable.
  11. Unscrew all spark plugs.
  12. Uncover heads of cylinders. Not to draw a cover it is necessary to observe a certain sequence when weakening bolts. It is shown on an illustration below. From a head of cylinders there is a maslootrazhatel whom it is necessary to remove.

  1. Unscrew all support of the inlet pipeline. On the SR20DE engine some support which are shown on an illustration are used. On the SR20Di engine only one support is used.
  2. Remove a cartridge of the oil filter and the console of the pump of the amplifier of a steering.
  3. Turn the crankshaft (having established a face head on a bolt of a belt pulley of the crankshaft) while the label on a belt pulley will not be opposite to the index on a cover of a drive of the distributive mechanism (see an illustration below). In this situation operating labels of each gear wheel of a drive of a cam-shaft are in the situation represented on an illustration.

  1. Remove a nut and a bolt and take out a natyazhitel of a chain from a head of cylinders. On a natyazhitel there is a laying and consolidation of round section. Both details it is necessary to replace.
  2. Uncover the distributor and examine a distributor head. Begunok of the distributor will be in the situation shown on an illustration. To remember this situation, it is necessary to carry out on the case of the distributor a chertilka the line opposite to the middle a begunka. Then remove both bolts (arrow) and take out the distributor.

  1. Weaken two bolts and remove directing to a chain.
  2. Weaken both bolts of asterisks of cam-shafts. Thus shaft should be held from a provorachivaniye. Behind an asterisk the shestigrannik on which has a shaft it is possible to establish an adjustable spanner, as is shown in an illustration below.

  1. Remove covers of bearings of cam-shafts, cam-shafts, an oil pipeline and carrying-out plate. When weakening covers of bearings a certain sequence should be observed. It is shown on an illustration below.

  1. After weakening of shlangovy collars disconnect the following hoses: a hose to the block of cylinders, hoses from a heater and if there is a water hose from a maslookhladitel.
  2. On the SR20DE engine remove a starter. Also on this engine it is necessary to unscrew a water tube.
  3. Unscrew bolts of a head of cylinders on outer side. They are in the places designated on an illustration below, three near a belt pulley of the water pump and one near the ignition distributor.

  1. Weaken bolts of a head of cylinders from outer side to the middle uniform passes and raise a head of cylinders. The inlet pipeline and a final collector remain on a head. On an illustration lower the sequence of weakening of bolts is represented. If the head was pasted to the block it is possible to knock on it with a rubber hammer. Do not try to insert at all between sealing surfaces a screw-driver. Put a head on a workbench if it understands or be under repair.

  1. Remove the case pallet (The head of System of cooling and heating).
  2. From the bottom party of a case remove a maslovsasyvayushchy grid and a masloprovodyashchy plate.
  3. Weaken a bolt of a belt pulley of the crankshaft. To fix a shaft from a provorachivaniye, it is possible to include transfer. Wring out a remenny pulley two mounts. Strongly sitting cam-shaft can be removed by means of a stripper. To establish represented on an illustration below a stripper, in a belt pulley there are two carving openings.

  1. Now the engine should be raised from support. For this purpose it is possible to use the mobile lift with a suitable steel plate that the plate rested against a frame of radical bearings of the crankshaft.
  2. Remove a forward engine mount.
  3. Unscrew a cover of a drive of the distributive mechanism at an engine end face. In total 9 bolts should be weakened.
  4. Weaken shown on an illustration below bolts and remove right (1) and the left (2) directing chains.

  1. Remove a driving chain if it is required, remove a crankshaft asterisk. Remember, as it is put on. Carefully clear and check all details especially details of a drive of the distributive mechanism. Worn-out asterisks are distinguished in very brilliant places which can be noticed and on chain rollers. Check of details of a head of cylinders, including cam-shafts, is considered further. At installation of details of a drive of the distributive mechanism and a head of cylinders act in the following sequence. All necessary moments of an inhaling are specified illustrations, them is specified also in the text.
  2. Hammer an asterisk on the crankshaft. The fillet of an asterisk should be turned to the crankshaft. Watch, that the shponka correctly entered.
  3. Turn the crankshaft that the shponka in an asterisk stood vertically up. The operating label on an asterisk is in situation «at 4 o'clock». Examine a chain and find the marked link. On one party of a chain it is possible to find two labels, otstoyashchy from each other on 20 links. They serve for cam-shafts. If to count 48 links, it is possible to find a label for the crankshaft. This link also has the color differing from two others. Impose a chain on a crankshaft asterisk that labels coincided.
  4. According to an illustration establish and tighten directing chains. Suspend a chain above in the weakened condition.
  5. Remove old laying from a cover of a drive of the distributive mechanism and from a sealing surface of the block of cylinders and to put hermetic on sealing surfaces (a strip in width of 2-3 mm). Put on a remote element (20) of a drive of the oil pump (illustration) and screw a cover on the block of cylinders. All forced-out hermetic remove.
  6. Again establish a forward support of the engine and remove the lift.
  7. Hammer a remenny pulley of the crankshaft on a shaft and tighten a bolt. Thus hold the crankshaft from a provorachivaniye. The label «0» on a pulley should be opposite to the index in a cover of a drive of the distributive mechanism (compare to an illustration).
  8. Establish a maslovsasyvayushchy grid and a masloprovodyashchy plate.
  9. These works are described in the Head of System of cooling and heating.
  10. Grease junctions between a cover of a drive of the distributive mechanism and the block of cylinders a small amount of hermetic and impose laying of a head of cylinders.
  11. Establish a head of cylinders with the inlet pipeline and to final collectors and besiege a rubber hammer.
  12. Before installation of bolts of a head of cylinders it is necessary to measure them. If the distance from the carving end to the bottom party of a head of a bolt exceeds 158.2 mm, the corresponding bolt should be replaced.
  13. Tighten bolts of a head of cylinders in sequence, return given on an illustration. Grease a carving of bolts and the lower part of a head of a bolt with oil and tighten all bolts fingers. The inhaling of bolts is carried out as follows:
    • Tighten all bolts according to the chart on an illustration 4.24 with effort of 40 N • m.
    • Tighten all bolts according to the chart on an illustration 4.24 with effort of 80 N • m.
    • Completely weaken all bolts.
    • Tighten all bolts according to the chart on an illustration 4.24 with effort of 35-45 N • m.
    • Tighten all bolts on a certain corner in the sequence shown on an illustration. All bolts should be tightened on a corner 90-100 °.
    • Correctly to sustain a corner the template which should be made independently is necessary. Cut out a circle from a cardboard and divide it into four equal segments on 90 °. Divide one of segments, as is shown in an illustration to designate area 90-100 °. Precisely in the middle of a template cut through a tetrahedral opening in size with a used face head and the extension piece. At an inhaling act as follows:

Type of a self-made goniometer. It should be used at an inhaling of bolts of a head of cylinders.
    • Put on a template the extension piece and thrust the extension piece in a face head.
    • Put on a head a bolt (10) (see an illustration) and combine a point «0» with any point on a head of cylinders.
    • Now tighten a bolt, the label 90-100 ° will not be reached yet.
    • In the same way tighten other bolts, whenever possible maintaining a corner as it is possible more precisely.
    • In the same way tighten bolts for 90-100 ° By no means it is impossible доворачивать bolts at once on 180-200 ° i.e. on a half of turn. By Dovorachivaniye on the set corner it should be carried out for two passes.
  1. Screw in 4 bolts of a head of cylinders on outer side.
  2. On the SR20DE engine establish a water tube. Also on this engine establish into place a starter.
  3. Connect all water hoses. Check, whether it is possible to reuse hoses and collars.
  4. Clear a surface of a cover of the extreme bearing of the left cam-shaft of the remains of hermetic and clear also of it the assembly party of a head of cylinders. Then cover interfaced surfaces with hermetic.
  5. Well grease necks of bearings of cam-shafts and enclose in basic openings. Turn cam-shafts while directing pins of terminal surfaces will not occupy the following situation:
    • The pin of the right shaft should stand vertically up (12 hours)
    • The pin of the left shaft should be turned also up (but at 10 o'clock)
  6. Tighten now covers of bearings of cam-shafts. This work quite difficult also should be carried out, being guided by illustrations Sequence of an inhaling of covers of bearings of cam-shafts. The big cover belongs to the left cam-shaft and the Separate bolts mentioned in the text are designated by letters from And to D below. On one illustration the sequence of an inhaling is given, on other illustration various bolts which have the different moments of an inhaling are shown. Act as follows:

    • At an inhaling of the right cam-shaft tighten bolts (9) and (10) and then bolts with (1) on (8) in the set sequence with effort of 2 N • m.
    • At an inhaling of the left cam-shaft tighten bolts (11) and (12) and then bolts with (1) on (10) in the set sequence with effort of 2 N • m.
    • Tighten all bolts in given above sequence with effort of 6 N • m.
    • Tighten all bolts designated on an illustration by letters A, B and C, in given above sequence with effort of 9-12 N • m.
    • Tighten all bolts designated on an illustration by a letter D, with effort of 18-25 N • m.
  1. Put on asterisks of cam-shafts (having pinned with directing), having at the same time established a chain. Labels on asterisks and links of a chain should coincide, apparently from an illustration.
  2. Screw bolts, holding cam-shafts (see an illustration) tighten bolts with effort of 14-16 N • m.
  3. Establish directing to a chain (6) (see an illustration).
  4. Establish the ignition distributor. Reception shlitsa in a cam-shaft should settle down horizontally. After installation compare the distributor to an illustration.
  5. Establish a natyazhitel of a chain. Thus it is necessary to be guided by an illustration to pull a natyazhitel. For this purpose press a lock latch (1) inside and move the piston (2) in a natyazhitel while the hook (4) cannot be latched over a pin (3). Screw a natyazhitel an arrow on the forward party of the engine. After an inhaling of a natyazhitel, the hook (4) is released, and the natyazhitel automatically works.

  1. Screw a socle of the oil filter and the console of the pump of the amplifier of a steering.
  2. Establish support or a support of the inlet pipeline.
  3. Remove all remains of laying from sealing surfaces of a head of cylinders and a cover of a head of cylinders and cover both surfaces with hermetic.
  4. Impose laying and tighten fastening nuts in sequence of a return illustration. At first tighten being in the middle of a nut since nuts (4), (3), (1) and (6) with effort of 4 N • m. Then tighten all nuts in return sequence with effort of 8-10 N • m. Again the nut is in the middle tightened by the first.
  5. All other works execute in return to sequence removal.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Unscrew all established under a front of the car of the panel.
  2. Establish a forward part on support, unscrew the right wheel and unscrew a guard in a forward right wheel arch.
  3. Merge cooling liquid as it is described in the Head of System of cooling and heating.
  4. Remove driving belts of the generator and the pump of the amplifier of a steering. Unscrew the pump together with the console from the engine. Do not disconnect hoses.
  5. Completely remove a reception pipe of the exhaust silencer.
  6. Attach the engine cables to the lift and remove a forward engine mount. It is a bracket, it is represented on an illustration.
  7. Unscrew all spark plugs.
  8. Uncover heads of cylinders. Not to draw a cover when easing it is necessary to observe a certain sequence. It is represented on an illustration lower.

  1. Turn the crankshaft (having put on a face head a bolt of a belt pulley of the crankshaft) while the label on a belt pulley will not rise opposite to the index on a cover of a drive of the distributive mechanism (see an illustration below). In this position of the crankshaft the piston of the 1st cylinder is in the provision VMT of the end of a step of compression.
When the piston of the 1st cylinder is in situation VMT, the index (1) and a label "0" on a belt pulley (2) should coincide.
  1. Uncover the distributor and examine a distributor head. Begunok should stand in the situation shown on an illustration. To remember this situation for installation, it is necessary to carry out on an edge of the case of the distributor the line opposite to the middle a begunka. Then remove the ignition distributor.
  2. Unscrew a cover of asterisks of cam-shafts.
  3. Remove a remenny pulley of the water pump.
  4. Remove the thermostat case.
  5. Remove a natyazhitel of a chain. It is fixed by two bolts.
  6. Being guided by an illustration below, check that both operating labels of asterisks of cam-shafts stood opposite to each other. Then remove an internal natyazhitel of a chain on the left side and directing to a chain on the right side.

  1. Weaken and remove bolts of asterisks of cam-shafts. Thus it is necessary to hold shaft from a provorachivaniye. Remove both asterisks, having at the same time removed a chain. Cam-shafts not to turn any more as differently valves will encounter pistons. If it is required to remove only a head of cylinders it is necessary to pull a chain and to adhere it.
  2. Weaken bolts of covers of bearings of cam-shafts for some passes in the sequence designated on an illustration. Mark the provision of covers and remove them. Take out both cam-shafts.

  1. Weaken bolts of a head of cylinders beginning from edges to the middle for some passes in the sequence represented on an illustration and remove a head of cylinders. The inlet pipeline and a final collector remain on a head of cylinders. If the head was pasted to laying, it is possible to knock on it with a rubber hammer. Do not try to remove at all a head, having inserted between sealing surfaces a screw-driver. Carefully put a head of cylinders on a workbench if it understands or be under repair.

  1. From a reverse side take out a shaft of an intermediate asterisk.
  2. Remove the top driving chain.
  3. Check, that the engine reliably hung on the lift and remove an average beam of the engine.
  4. Remove the pallet of a case and a maslovsasyvayushchy grid (The section Removal and installation of the pallet of a case).
  5. Holding the crankshaft from a provorachivaniye (include transfer) weaken a bolt of a belt pulley of the crankshaft. Wring out a pulley two mounts.
  6. Establish under the engine the mobile lift and raise the engine. Put between the lift and the engine wooden laying. Unscrew a forward support of the engine from a suspension bracket.
  7. Unscrew a cover of a drive of the distributive mechanism. One bolt is inserted into the water pump.
  8. Remove details from the engine end face, represented on an illustration below.

  1. Installation of a drive of the distributive mechanism and head of cylinders is carried out in the following sequence. On an illustration separate elements of a drive of the distributive mechanism with the inhaling moments are represented.
  2. Check, that the piston of the 1st cylinder was in situation VMT. Both shponka in the crankshaft should stand vertically.
  3. Establish directing to a chain.
  4. Hammer an asterisk of the crankshaft and impose the bottom driving chain. The asterisk has a label, and the silvery link should rise on a tooth with a label.
  5. The asterisk should be established by a label outside. Other silvery link is symmetrized, so the chain can be imposed anyway. Pull a chain and adhere above that it could not slide off.
  6. Establish a cover of a drive of the distributive mechanism:
    • Cover a cover surface with hermetic.
    • Once again check, that labels on a chain and an asterisk coincided.
    • Level a remote element of a drive of the oil pump with the pump.
    • Press a chain on one party directing that it could not concern cover consolidation.
    • Insert two new consolidations of round section in a cover.
    • At installation of a cover watch not to damage an epiploon.
  1. Establish a forward engine mount.
  2. Establish a maslovsasyvayushchy grid and the case pallet (The section Removal and installation of the pallet of a case).
  3. Establish a remenny pulley of the crankshaft and tighten a bolt.
  4. Establish an average beam of the engine (see an illustration).
  5. Level a big asterisk of an intermediate shaft so that the label on an asterisk coincided with a silvery link of a chain. Then, being guided by an illustration, impose the top chain that the label on a small asterisk coincided with a silvery link of the top chain.
  6. Both labels of asterisks of an intermediate shaft should be turned outside. Insert a shaft of intermediate asterisks behind.
  7. Establish a head of cylinders with new laying. On bolts of a head of cylinders washers which are turned by the flat party to a head are imposed. Establish a head with the inlet pipeline and a final collector and besiege a rubber hammer. Screw all bolts.
  8. Tighten bolts of a head of cylinders in sequence of return that that is represented on an illustration. Oil a carving of bolts, the lower part of heads of bolts and a washer and tighten all bolts a hand.
  9. The inhaling of bolts is made as follows:
  10. Tighten all bolts according to the chart on an illustration with effort of 29 N • m.
  11. Tighten all bolts according to the chart on an illustration with effort of 60 N • m.
  12. Completely release all bolts.
  13. Tighten all bolts according to the chart on an illustration 4.78 with effort of 30 N • m.
  14. Tighten all bolts on a certain corner in sequence shown on an illustration.
  15. All bolts should be tightened on a corner 50-55 °. Correctly to sustain a corner, the template which should be made independently is necessary. Cut out a circle from a cardboard and divide it into four equal segments on 90 °. Divide one of segments to receive a corner 45 °. Designate area 50-55 ° under the line 45 °, as is shown in an illustration. Precisely in the middle of a template cut through a tetrahedral opening in size with a used face head and the extension piece. At an inhaling act as follows:
    • Put on a template the extension piece and thrust the extension piece in a face head.
    • Put on a head a bolt (15) (see an illustration) and combine a point «0» with any point on a head of cylinders.
    • Now tighten a bolt, the label 50-55 ° will not be reached yet
    • In the same way tighten other bolts, whenever possible maintaining a corner as it is possible more precisely.
Type of a self-made angular template for the carburetor engine.
  1. If not to use a template, it is possible to tighten bolts with effort of 60 N • m after they will be tightened with effort of 30 N • m. Then tighten bolts from outer side (bolts with 1 on 5 on an illustration) with effort 6.5 - 8.5 N • m.
  2. Block a chain drive and tighten a bolt of an intermediate gear wheel.
  3. Establish cam-shafts, covers of bearings of cam-shafts and the ignition distributor. Tighten bolts of covers of bearings of cam-shafts in sequence, return that which is represented on an illustration. Well grease necks of bearings of cam-shafts. After replacement of details of valves or cam-shafts, it is necessary to adjust a gap of valves as it is described further.
  4. Enclose asterisks of cam-shafts in a chain and screw them on shaft. Thus, being guided by an illustration, also consider quantity of links between silvery links on the top party. Each asterisk has one tooth with a label which should be inserted into a silvery link. Also the label on an asterisk of an intermediate shaft should be respectively leveled according to an illustration, i.e. labels on asterisks of cam-shafts and an intermediate shaft should coincide with silvery links. Directing in asterisks of cam-shafts will be in the shown situation.

  1. Carefully turn both cam-shafts (the crankshaft should be turned also that valves could not come across pistons) while both directing pins will occupy the situation shown on an illustration.   1. Establish an internal natyazhitel of a chain and directing to a chain according to an illustration. Check, that the hook for blocking of a natyazhitel was free.
  2. Screw in a natyazhitel of a chain from outer side. Slowly turn the crankshaft to check that the drive of the crankshaft can freely rotate. Establish the piston of the 1st cylinder in situation VMT.
  3. Grease laying of the case of the thermostat by hermetic and screw it.
  4. Screw a remenny pulley of the water pump.
  5. Establish the ignition distributor. Reception shlitsa for the end of a cam-shaft should settle down horizontally.
  6. Screw a cover of asterisks of cam-shafts.
  7. Grease semicircular consolidations by a hermetic strip in width of 3 mm and insert into beds of a head of cylinders. Well level them that the top party was level with a surface of a head of cylinders.
  8. Cover laying of a cover of a head of cylinders by hermetic and establish a cover.
  9. Tighten bolts in sequence, that is shown return that on an illustration.

Dismantling of a head of cylinders and valves

Both engines described in this management have a head of cylinders with the cam-shafts established in it, however on it their similarity comes to an end. Therefore works are described separately. In injector engines levers which lean on hydraulic pushers for compensation of gaps of valves are used. Carburetor engine

The head of cylinders of the carburetor engine already at removal to some extent understands on separate elements, i.e. in a head of cylinders there are only valves. They act in film also as it was described above. Take out pushers and adjusting washers of pushers and connect according to valve number. Saddles of valves

  2. For reduction of width of a facet of a saddle there are mills with various corners which also are given in Specifications at the beginning of Head.
    Valves should be ground in in the usual way, for grinding in the valve not subject to installation should be used good, but.
  3. If facets of saddles of valves are strongly worn-out, it is possible to establish new saddles, thus a head of cylinders follows рассверлить for the corresponding size. Valves

  1. Check cores of valves on wear existence, formation of grooves or cracks. Put to well cleared core of the valve a steel ruler and check, that the core was a straight line. The bend is inadmissible, as the valve will jam in the directing. Check plates of valves on existence of a deposit or formation of craters. Between the top surface of the valve and the top edge of a facet of the valve there should be a certain distance. This size is designated as width of an edge of the valve and should lie in certain limits. At all do not belittle the minimum size. Plates of valves can be ground the special machine provided that the demanded thickness of an edge remains.
  2. If end faces of cores of valves any more smooth (they cannot be put correctly in action by yokes any more or pushers) they can be ground, provided that they will be ground off no more than on 0.2 mm.

Directing valves

Directing valves are pressed in a head of cylinders. If the gap between strezhny and directing the valve is too great (more than 0.10 mm), directing it is possible to replace. At first check a gap. For this purpose insert the valve into a head, as is shown in an illustration below and take out on 15 mm. Establish in a shown way the tsiferblatny indicator and move the valve here and there.   1. On carburetor engines this check includes also check of pushers of valves. Small damages of cams or necks of bearings can be maleficiated by an oselok. Scratches and even cracks demand cam-shaft replacement.
  2. Necks of bearings of a cam-shaft are measured by means of a micrometer to check diameter and ovality. The received values compare to previously received values of openings of bearings of a cam-shaft. For measurement establish all covers of bearings and tighten with the effort corresponding to Specifications. Measure by means of the internal indicator separate openings of bearings as is shown in an illustration below.

  1. If valves, a head of the cylinders, directing levers and/or a saddle of valves were replaced, it is necessary to define thickness of new compensatory washers under the lever. The special tool is necessary for this work to measure height of the established valve. If there are doubts in correctness of a choice of washers, it is recommended to carry a head of cylinders in Nissan workshop where can pick up necessary washers.
  2. Carefully clear valves, facets of saddles of valves, channels and sealing surfaces. Clear inside of directing valves, having passed through through them the rag moistened in gasoline. It especially is required, if valves got used, that the remains of grinding paste could not get to openings. At assembly act as follows.

Injector engine

  1. Establish on valves maslootrazhatelny caps. The valve end with grooves for crackers should be wrapped up a foil (from a pack of cigarets). Caps are put on by Maslootrazhatelnye by means of a pipe piece, after installation of a cup of a spring of the valve. Caps thus not to damage.
  2. Insert valves into the corresponding openings. Valves of originally being issued engines had no designations. New valves in the middle can have designation "53J" (inlet valves) or "5J" (final valves of the SR20DE engine) or "64Y" (final valves of the SE20Di engine). The valves designated thus can be established instead of the old.
  3. Establish springs of valves the closed rounds to a head of cylinders. Besides the lower part of springs of valves has color designation. This party is turned to a head of cylinders.

  5. Release a szhimatel and strike on a valve spring with a hammer to be convinced of durability of landing of crackers.

  7. Establish levers of valves, the compensatory washers, directing levers and hydraulic jacks according to an illustration. Now it is necessary to check compensatory elements. For air removal again remove an element, insert into the vessel filled with impellent oil so that the bottom party rested about a bottom. Press a finger the piston and insert a small core into a valve opening. Move a core up-down. Thus the core presses the return valve and forces out air. Air is removed, when the piston does not move any more. On an illustration elements of this work above are shown. Carburetor engine

For assembly of a head of cylinders of the carburetor engine it is required to establish valves and the removed details only. It is necessary to remember that it is necessary to adjust a gap of valves as it is described in subsection Directing valves. Valves are established according to instructions above.
